End of week 3/20

1 minute read

I’m now 3 weeks into my master’s thesis. 15%. 17 weeks to go. Thus far, everything is going fine but my time estimation is a bit off. This week, I planned to be finished with designing how to run experiments, and to start running some experiments. However, I’m not finished with the designing of experiments yet…

Summary of week [3/20]

  • Monday
    • Started playing around with the tool kops to provision Kubernetes clouds in AWS
  • Tuesday
    • More playing around with kops and started designing a script, runExperiments.sh, that should provision a Kubernetes cluster, then install analytics tools, then install sock shop, then run traffic normally, then introduce anomalies, then tear down the Kubernetes cluster.
  • Wednesday
    • More work on runExperiments.sh
  • Thursday
    • More work on runExperiments.sh
  • Friday
    • More work on runExperiments.sh
    • Had a meeting with my supervisor regarding details concerning my experiments, e.g. how to introduce anomalies, suitable node size on AWS for k8s worker nodes etc.

Experiences

This week went by rather fast and I feel that I didn’t achieve as much as I had planned for. Much can perhaps be attributed to the task of designing experiments (and building a runExperiments.sh-script to run experiments) being a rather large task.

I’ve worked between 12:00 and 21:00 most days this week. This was perhaps not such a good idea, as I often missed lunches with other employees at Elastisys, where I could discuss problems and such.

Next week

According to the time plan, I should spend next week with “running experiments”. I’m not finished with the script to run experiments yet, so I will have to do that first. Therefore, the plan is to finish the runExperiments.sh script by Wednesday, and to start running experiments after that.
