End of week 3/20
I’m now 3 weeks into my master’s thesis. 15%. 17 weeks to go. Thus far, everything is going fine but my time estimation is a bit off. This week, I planned to be finished with designing how to run experiments, and to start running some experiments. However, I’m not finished with the designing of experiments yet…
Summary of week [3/20]
- Monday
- Started playing around with the tool kops to provision Kubernetes clouds in AWS
- Tuesday
- More playing around with
kops
and started designing a script,runExperiments.sh
, that should provision a Kubernetes cluster, then install analytics tools, then install sock shop, then run traffic normally, then introduce anomalies, then tear down the Kubernetes cluster.
- More playing around with
- Wednesday
- More work on
runExperiments.sh
- More work on
- Thursday
- More work on
runExperiments.sh
- More work on
- Friday
- More work on
runExperiments.sh
- Had a meeting with my supervisor regarding details concerning my experiments, e.g. how to introduce anomalies, suitable node size on AWS for k8s worker nodes etc.
- Wrote this post
- More work on
Experiences
This week went by rather fast and I feel that I didn’t achieve as much as I had
planned for. Much can perhaps be attributed to the task of designing experiments
(and building a runExperiments.sh
-script to run experiments) being a rather
large task.
I’ve worked between 12:00 and 21:00 most days this week. This was perhaps not such a good idea, as I often missed lunches with other employees at Elastisys, where I could discuss problems and such.
Next week
According to the time plan, I should spend next week with “running
experiments”. I’m not finished with the script to run experiments yet, so I will
have to do that first. Therefore, the plan is to finish the runExperiments.sh
script by Wednesday, and to start running experiments after that.
